Bitkom – Digitaltag 2026

Tropical temperatures outside – and straight on into a tropical setting inside VR. For Digitaltag 2026, Bitkom took its guests on a discovery tour through everyday applications of augmented and virtual reality, held in RAUM.

At several stations in the virtual world, experts showed how AR and VR are already being used concretely today – in schools, in museums, in concert halls. The most interesting thread running through all of it: how do you bring people with no prior experience to these technologies, so that they end up using AR and VR independently and for something that actually makes sense?

The line-up: Sebastian Lotz from the Eintracht Frankfurt Museum, Anne Eiselein from Konzerthaus Berlin, Simon Glöcklhofer from Deutsches Museum and Alicja Gulcz from the Zentrum für schulpraktische Lehrerausbildung Düsseldorf shared their insights, examples and hands-on experience.

Bitkom’s own reflection is worth repeating, because it is honest about the trade-off: a video call is faster – click the link, hit join, done. VR asks for a little more preparation, sometimes a little patience, and the willingness to engage with a different form of exchange. But that is exactly where the appeal lies: a different presence, a different sense of space, and a different kind of attention.

Which is the point of running an event not just about VR, but genuinely in VR – and the reason AR and VR are more than just another channel for digital events.
